Creating When You Don’t Feel Creative
Real Talk • May 2025 • 4 min read
Sometimes your brain feels like a thrift store rack: full of stuff, none of it wearable.
The pressure to post, design, produce, make something cool—while your inner well feels dry? Brutal.
But I’ve been there. And I’ve learned how to move anyway. Not fake it. Just move.
Start With Structure, Not Spark
Waiting for a “muse” is a scam. I use outlines. Grids. Timers. I make frameworks that carry me when my imagination doesn’t want to.
Think of it like scaffolding. You build it first, then climb it when you’re ready.
Borrow Energy From Other Places
Music. Color palettes. Typography samples. A line from a podcast.
When I’m low on ideas, I don’t dig deeper—I look sideways.
You’re not blocked. You’re just dry. Go get filled.
“Creativity isn’t something you wait for. It’s something you re-enter.”
Make Small Things With No Pressure
The best way to find flow is to make something tiny. A wordmark. A sticker. A reel no one has to see.
Don’t force a masterpiece. Flex a muscle. You don’t need to finish. You just need to begin.
Need a Creative Reset Ritual?
I made a simple reset sheet you can do in 7 minutes. It doesn’t fix everything, but it always gets me moving again.
